Bimal Fabbri
Bimal Fabbri was born in 1993 in the village of Mankha, Nepal. At the age of 7, his grandfather brought him to an orphanage in Kathmandu. When he was about 8 years old, he was adopted by an Italian family from Milan. He completed three years of painting studies (two years at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan and one year at the UdK in Berlin). Afterwards, he graduated in photography at the Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie in Berlin. He currently lives, works and studies in Berlin.
He works through the use of different media. At the moment, he mainly focuses on video, photography and poetry. In his body of work, images and words are used as a tool to reconstruct his Nepalese roots. His work consists of questioning the symbolic relationships that emerge from an environment and its experience. In poetic descriptions, the metaphors of ordinary life embody notions of adoption, post-migration, home, uprooting, memory and cultural belonging.
